European Regional Focal Point for Animal Genetic Resources

Regional platform for the support of management, conservation and sustainable use of animal genetic resources

More than 50 people from 28 countries: the ERFP network in action !

The 2025 ERFP Working Group meetings took place on May 5–6 in Athens, Greece, hosted at the ELGO-DIMITRA facilities by the local organizers. The event provided a valuable opportunity for experts from across Europe to exchange experiences and insights on the conservation of Animal Genetic Resources.

Participants from the Documentation and Information, Ex situ, and In situ Working Groups engaged in both cross-group and focused discussions covering a wide range of topics. Over 20 presentations were delivered during the two-day meeting, all of which are now available on the ERFP website.

Key topics included transboundary breed management, the definition and scope of ex situ in vivo conservation, and ongoing work by the EURC EAB consortium. Notably, this included the development of a self-assessment tool for breeding programs and first thoughts to provide guidelines for defining endangered breeds.
