The Native Lithuanian pig
Data provided in 2019
The origin of the Lithuanian native pigs are the local Lithuanian pig population. They were widespread throughout Lithuania until the middle of the 20th century, and survived the longest in southeastern Lithuania (the region where buckwheat production was the largest). At present, local pigs of known origin are reared at the Animal Science institute of Lithuania and with one farmer in Kedainiai district.
